Polari is the musical project and stage name of Brooklyn-based singer/songwriter, Salvatore Grisafi.
Salvatore grew up on the North Fork of eastern Long Island where he sang in several bands growing up during the post-Taking Bak Sunday explosion on the local music scene. After graduating college, Salvatore moved to Brooklyn where he began to revisit old song ideas and write new material with acoustic guitar and stripped down vocals.
In late 2016, he reconnected with his high school friend and longtime collaborator, Nicole DeMarco, who had just moved back to Long Island after living in Nashville studying and playing music for several years. In 2017, Nicole opened up Big Frame Recordings and Salvatore began taking the train out on weekends to record songs there.
After a few sessions, Salvatore decided that he had enough material to do a full length album which would eventually be called “Last One To Leave”. The title comes from a line in the song “Masterpiece” by Bayside, a constant reference point for Salvatore’s earlier material. As recording progressed, Long Island producer and friend Nicholas Starrantino became involved with the process. Nicholas helped Nicole and Salvatore expand some of the tracks to feature full band compositions and also mastered the album.
“Last One To Leave” was released in August of 2018 and is available on all major music streaming platforms.
